[0:00] J.J.: I love the spooky tag.

[0:02] Olaf: I know you do. Johnny nails it. He catches the vibe, which clearly is Halloween spooky time.

[0:07] J.J.: Yeah, it is the season for Halloween.

[0:10] Olaf: You told me that you just went to an escape room, and I've only done escape rooms I think twice, and I think they're very cool. But yours, what was the theme of your escape room?

[0:20] J.J.: I've only done like, I don't know, three prior to this, maybe four, and all spread out. It wasn't like, I got a group, let's just go every weekend kind of thing, no. So it was like an IT escape room, and this is Stephen King's IT, and it's based off of the newer IT movies.

[0:40] Olaf: Right, the ones that came out a couple years ago. It was super fun. It's spooky, you got someone dressed up as Pennywise who would show up from time to time, you'd have recordings of the voice of the actor playing the character pop up here and there too.

[1:00] J.J.: So what exactly are you escaping from?

[1:05] Olaf: And then we just go in room to room, solving puzzles, into the sewers, and it was really cool. It was a really cool experience. I would definitely go again if people were down, and I guess the company has other horror type escape rooms elsewhere in the city.

[1:25] J.J.: Well that's definitely a way to get into the season here, and kind of segues into what we're going to do or talk about tonight. And before we do that though, I think it's time to get back to the movie theater.

[1:40] Olaf: Well welcome everybody back to the movie theater. Like we were saying, tis the season, tis the Halloween season.

[1:55] J.J.: And it is now my turn to put Olaf into the hot seat, because today it is a trivia themed episode, where now the tables are turned, and I will get to ask Olaf some trivia questions, and not just any trivia questions we have decided, because it is the Halloween season, and because Olaf does enjoy the Halloween season.

[2:20] Olaf: This trivia episode is going to be a Halloween movie themed trivia episode, and I know you're a little nervous, rightly so. Am I incorrect in saying that?

[2:30] J.J.: So this is a first for us. Normally I'm the one asking the questions, and you are just infuriatingly getting them correct, and it really grinds my gears. But now I'm the one on the hot seat, and at some point I would love to try out my general movie knowledge in a trivia, but no.

[2:50] Olaf: My first time doing it is horror movies, which I do enjoy, and I feel like I've watched a good amount, and there's some that I could say that I know a good amount about, but I don't know what you're going to ask. We haven't gone over any of this, and I don't know where my level of knowledge is going to go.

[3:10] J.J.: And that's fair. And I would say, to your credit and to your defense, now being on this side of it where I've got to construct the questions and find them and put together what will end up being about 15 questions, I too am a little nervous because when putting them together, I don't know, like, are these going to be too easy? Is this too general? Are these questions too vague?

[3:30] Olaf: Because obviously we don't want you to – one, I don't want you to go 100%, but I also don't want you to go two for 15 either, right? So I feel like –

[3:45] J.J.: Have you gotten 100% yet on any of the trivias?

[3:48] Olaf: No.

[3:49] J.J.: No. I've managed to get you somehow at least once or twice.

[3:54] Olaf: Right. You've gotten me a few times. But in this particular case, I feel like there's a lot of these you're going to know. I feel like they're what I would consider to be elementary softball-type questions. There may be –

[4:10] J.J.: And see, he says that, and then it's going to be some crazy question, and I'm all relaxed because I'm like, this is elementary, and then I don't know it.

[4:20] Olaf: Well, there are a few I feel like I might stump you, but not many, not many because I do feel like you're going to know a lot of these, and so we'll see if this makes for a good episode, for a good listen, and if anything, you'll get them all, and the people listening will also be right there with you, or maybe they'll have learned something that they didn't know prior to tuning in.

[4:40] J.J.: Okay.

[4:42] Olaf: With that being said, let's jump into it. This is the Halloween Horror Movie Trivia Night.

[4:50] J.J.: Back to the movie theater trivia game.

[4:55] Olaf: And we're going to start things off with what I consider to be one of those softball-type questions.

[5:00] J.J.: Okay.

[5:02] J.J.: Question number one.

[5:04] J.J.: What is the name of Nev Campbell's character in Scream?

[5:10] Olaf: Okay. This is a great question, because if you're a casual viewer, you might kind of forget. Names are not always my strong suit in real life.

[5:20] J.J.: But I do enjoy the Scream franchise. I do know the answer to this one, and like JJ, I'm going to talk a little bit to let everybody play along, but the answer to your question is Sidney Prescott.

[5:40] J.J.: Judges?

[5:42] Olaf: Yes. Sidney Prescott. He took the long route to the answer, but like he said, he's going to allow you guys at home to think of the answer, but also I think there'll be times when he's talking just so he can try to figure out the answer himself, because that's what I would do.

[6:00] J.J.: That is also very possible.

[6:02] J.J.: So yes. I feel like it's all smooth sailing from here as we get into question number two.

[6:10] J.J.: What is the name of the summer camp where Friday the 13th takes place?

[6:15] Olaf: Okay. Now this one, this isn't even a softball question. This is the pitcher just came up to the batter and handed him the ball.

[6:25] Olaf: The ball's on a tee. This is like a tee ball. The ball's right there on the tee.

[6:30] J.J.: I love the Friday the 13th movies. All of them. Most of them are so bad, but I love them. They're all guilty pleasures. Friday the 13th, the camp where everybody goes is Camp Crystal Lake.

[6:50] J.J.: Judges?

[6:52] Olaf: Knocks it right off the tee.

[6:54] J.J.: Thank you. Thank you.

[6:56] Olaf: And if you're a parent with a five-year-old, you're hopefully your kid's running in the right direction around the bases.

[7:05] J.J.: Well, I can't make that promise.

[7:07] J.J.: Okay. So I might get some flack for this next question, because I know how you are when it comes to, was this a movie that was in the theater? Was this a made-for-TV whatever?

[7:20] Olaf: But it's still here. It's still a question that's going to be asked. And so since I put the questions together, here we go.

[7:25] J.J.: In the 1990 made-for-TV movie of Stephen King's It, Harry Anderson plays the adult Richie Tozier.

[7:40] J.J.: Who plays Richie Tozier as a 12-year-old in part one?

[7:45] Olaf: He's thinking about this one. I can see the vein popping up in his head.

[7:55] J.J.: So the made-for-TV It miniseries.

[7:58] Olaf: Yes, it was a miniseries on ABC, if I'm not mistaken.

[8:05] J.J.: Starring Tim Curry as Pennywise, which is the only good part of this.

[8:15] Olaf: There are a lot of cringeworthy moments in this miniseries.

[8:20] J.J.: It was made-for-TV, so they had to alter a lot from the book.

[8:25] Olaf: Yes, absolutely.

[8:27] J.J.: They even changed some things that were done by a certain character in the book and gave it to a different character for no reason.

[8:35] Olaf: This is the part, everybody, where he's talking himself to an answer, because none of this has anything to do with the question I asked.

[8:45] J.J.: Who plays the young Tozier?

[8:50] Olaf: Man, because I remember most of the adults.

[8:55] J.J.: Right.

[8:57] Olaf: The problem is, at the moment, I can only remember one of the kids.

[9:05] J.J.: Was it Seth Green?

[9:08] Olaf: Is that your answer?

[9:10] Olaf: That is my answer.

[9:12] J.J.: Judges?

[9:14] Olaf: Oh, man!

[9:16] J.J.: Now I know why JJ talks so much in the trivia, because I could not think of who it was.

[9:25] Olaf: I was thinking, what's his name from Sequest and Ladybugs?

[9:30] J.J.: Jonathan Brandes plays the adult version of Richard Thomas, the main brother.

[9:40] Olaf: This is why Olaf says, we need to get a timer, because Olaf skirted that for a good two minutes trying to figure out the answer.

[9:50] J.J.: Yeah, all right, but let's just be fair here. That's the first time I've had to do that.

[9:55] Olaf: Correct. No, no, there's no question that I, too, have taken my time trying to get to an answer.

[10:05] J.J.: Yeah, after two trivias, we were like, okay.

[10:10] Olaf: So there it is. Yes, that one, I put there question three, because I needed peaks and valleys, as you would say.

[10:20] J.J.: That was a peak.

[10:22] Olaf: That was a definite peak.

[10:25] J.J.: Oh, man. I'm very proud of myself for remembering that.

[10:30] Olaf: I was like, wait, Seth Green was in that.

[10:35] J.J.: I don't know if that was my heater. I don't know if I maybe threw my arm out too quickly already.

[10:40] Olaf: That was a tough one.

[10:42] J.J.: Moving on to question four, and now moving on, all of these are going to be actual feature films.

[10:50] Olaf: That was my only made-for-TV film question, but I felt like this was a really good question.

[10:55] J.J.: I would argue that with you, but now it is marketed as a movie because they just show it without the commercials.

[11:05] Olaf: Well, they show it as one whole thing and not two parts.

[11:10] J.J.: Okay, question number four.

[11:12] J.J.: Which actor appears in all of these horror movies?

[11:15] J.J.: The Purge, Sinister, and The Black Phone.

[11:25] Olaf: Okay, so I've only watched part of the first Purge.

[11:30] Olaf: I've never really gotten into those movies, so I never watched any of the other ones.

[11:35] Olaf: But I have watched The Black Phone, which is very good, by the way.

[11:40] Olaf: I highly recommend it.

[11:42] J.J.: What was the other one?

[11:44] Olaf: Sinister.

[11:46] J.J.: Sinister. Have not watched that, I don't think. I don't recall.

[11:50] Olaf: No, I haven't because I thought it was insidious, which I have watched, but only the first one.

[11:55] J.J.: Okay.

[11:57] Olaf: The answer to this, because I think I've given enough time, is Ethan Hawke.

[12:05] J.J.: Judges?

[12:07] Olaf: Ethan Hawke. Yes, Ethan Hawke starred in The Purge, which as a movie itself...

[12:15] J.J.: Which I almost forgot he was in that.

[12:18] Olaf: If you just did The Purge and they didn't decide to go and try to make this thing a whole franchise with a TV show...

[12:25] J.J.: The first movie is a pretty cool concept. I've seen it once. It's not for me, but I thought it was a pretty good movie.

[12:30] Olaf: But yes, The Purge, Sinister, and The Black Phone all star Ethan Hawke.

[12:35] J.J.: I would. I know scary movies are not your thing.

[12:40] Olaf: What's up with scary movies? It's just horror movies in general.

[12:45] J.J.: The horror genre is not your thing.

[12:48] Olaf: It's not my way to be entertained.

[12:50] J.J.: I would recommend watching The Black Phone because Ethan Hawke is very good in it.

[12:55] Olaf: He's very creepy. It's a great performance.

[12:58] J.J.: And the movie is very tense.

[13:00] J.J.: Question number five.

[13:02] Olaf: Question five. Oh my gosh, I'm exhausted.

[13:05] J.J.: Which actor and actress play Ed and Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring Universe?

[13:15] Olaf: Oh God.

[13:17] Olaf: I'm so bad with names.

[13:20] J.J.: The next two questions.

[13:22] Olaf: Okay, so The Conjuring Universe, not that big of a fan of.

[13:30] Olaf: But The Conjuring 1 and The Conjuring 2 are fantastic.

[13:35] J.J.: I like a scary movie that gives me the willies, makes me even possibly jump, because that doesn't happen very often.

[13:45] Olaf: It doesn't. It doesn't. It's hard to get a jump scare in there or get that feel.

[13:50] J.J.: Yeah, so I'm a big fan of...

[14:21] Olaf: You know, a movie that like, raises the hair on my arm or the back of my neck. Cause that doesn't really happen very often. And The Conjuring, when the trailer dropped for that, I was like, oh my gosh, I have to see this movie. It looks so good. Cause it had a jump scare in the trailer, where I was like, oh that's amazing! Now I know how you feel, when you're sitting here waiting for an answer.

[14:44] JJ: Cause I gotta tell you everybody, he's just over here, he might be searching on the internet, on his laptop right now. I don't know what he's doing, except stalling for time. He's over here telling you what he ate at the movie theater when he went to go see the first one, how it made him feel. Like, it's a whole thing. And all I want to know is, which actor and actress played Ed and Lorraine Warren in these movies? Two of them, which you say you think are really, really good.

[15:14] Olaf: So, for someone who, this is their first time hosting The Trivia, you'd think you'd cut me a little slack. But now you're like, I get it, and I hate it. Let me take it out on you. No, this is fun, because I'm not gonna feel really good until you miss one. And I know you know how that feels.

[15:38] JJ: Oh, I do know how that feels. Because every time you get one right, it's like, especially when it's like one that I'm like, I think I got it. It's like, I just stole one year of your life away. How does that make you feel? And remember, this is for posterity. This is for posterity. Be honest.

[15:59] Olaf: Okay, all right. So, who played Ed and Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring series?

[16:06] JJ: Patrick Wilson is Ed.

[16:09] Olaf: He's in everything.

[16:11] JJ: He's in a lot. He's in comic book movies. He's in regular movies. He's in like every horror movie these days.

[16:21] Olaf: And then, please forgive me if I mispronounce her name. It's Vera...

[16:28] JJ: Vera...

[16:35] Olaf: Farmiga? Farmiga? Farmiga? Farmigia?

[16:41] JJ: Judges?

[16:44] Olaf: We will accept whatever it was you were trying to do with her last name.

[16:48] JJ: But it is Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.

[16:50] Olaf: Correct.

[16:51] JJ: I said Farmiga.

[16:52] Olaf: You did. You did. And then you went on to a bunch of variations of it.

[16:57] JJ: Well, I wasn't sure. I knew she's got a funny to pronounce name.

[17:02] Olaf: Very good. Very nice. All right. A third of the way through, you've somehow managed to go five for five.

[17:11] JJ: Okay. And I've probably taken the lead in terms of time it takes to answer over me.

[17:18] Olaf: Oh, I don't think so.

[17:33] JJ: Moving on to question number six.

[17:36] Olaf: Six.

[17:37] JJ: This is another one of those name questions.

[17:41] Olaf: I'm so bad with names.

[17:43] JJ: Which two actors played...

[17:45] Olaf: And it's two names?

[17:47] JJ: Which two actors were the killers in Scream 2?

[17:54] Olaf: In Scream 2?

[17:56] JJ: In Scream 2.

[18:01] Olaf: You want the actors' names.

[18:03] JJ: Yes, I want the actors' names, not the characters they played.

[18:08] Olaf: If you give me the characters they played, that would be cool. But that's not the answer I'm looking for.

[18:11] Olaf: Well, the female killer was Billy Loomis' mom.

[18:17] JJ: That's correct.

[18:18] Olaf: Mrs. Loomis.

[18:21] JJ: Because I don't remember her first name.

[18:26] Olaf: And then the second killer was a college friend.

[18:32] JJ: And I know his name.

[18:34] Olaf: I do not recall, nor do I think I know the actress's name who plays Mrs. Loomis.

[18:43] JJ: Do you want to downshift into how this movie made you feel when you watched it for the first time?

[18:49] Olaf: No, I'm just saying I'm going to get this wrong because I cannot think of her real name.

[19:00] JJ: Right.

[19:02] Olaf: And then the college friend was a college friend.

[19:02] Olaf: Right. And then the college student, I can't remember his character name.

[19:08] JJ: Her real name.

[19:08] JJ: His character's name was Mickey.

[19:11] Olaf: Yeah, see, I wouldn't have got that.

[19:13] JJ: I believe that was his character's name.

[19:14] Olaf: And I know his name. I know his name, and I can't remember it.

[19:43] JJ: Is this what this is? All the trivia just actor names?

[19:46] Olaf: No, no. In fact, I think this might be the last actor name question.

[19:52] JJ: This is going to.

[19:54] Olaf: I can't get her name. What is her name?

[19:56] JJ: I do not know her name.

[19:58] Olaf: Her name is Lori Metcalf.

[20:00] JJ: She was in...

[20:02] Olaf: It sort of rings a bell. She's been one of the most underappreciated actresses in the last 35 years. She's a big character actor. She's been in a ton of stuff. She was in Roseanne and TV shows. She's been in JFK and this. I mean, she's been in a ton of stuff.

[20:15] JJ: But I would never have known that.

[20:19] Olaf: Yeah, no, Lori Metcalf is brilliant.

[20:22] JJ: And she's brilliant.

[20:23] Olaf: She's kind of very annoying in this movie.

[20:25] JJ: Yeah, you don't accept Mrs. Loomis.

[20:27] Olaf: Well, that's not her name in real life. I don't think she's, you know, on her driver's license says Billy Loomis' mom.

[20:36] JJ: Yeah.

[20:37] Olaf: And then the other one, I know him. I see his face. You've mentioned other things he's been in.

[20:42] JJ: He's in tons and tons of stuff.

[20:45] Olaf: Westerns, he's fantastic in. He was in Mandalorian. He was in the show on HBO, the Western show that I now can't think of because my brain is just trying to think of his name and I can't.

[21:00] JJ: So I'm just gonna be bad.

[21:00] Olaf: Oh, yeah. He was in Deadwood, the Showtime.

[21:02] JJ: Deadwood.

[21:03] Olaf: Yeah.

[21:05] JJ: His name is Timothy Oliphant.

[21:07] Olaf: Timothy Oliphant.

[21:13] JJ: He got one wrong, everybody.

[21:16] Olaf: That's not such a big deal.

[21:18] JJ: I know like it is when I get one wrong. But it was a big deal for me because now I know.

[21:23] Olaf: So annoying.

[21:24] JJ: Now I know all the questions to ask.

[21:27] Olaf: Yeah. Just what is this actor's name?

[21:30] JJ: Correct.

[21:31] Olaf: Right.

[21:31] JJ: So yes.

[21:32] Olaf: Okay. All right. Well, hey. I was proud of myself because I got Patrick Wilson and Vera...

[21:39] JJ: Farmiga.

[21:40] Olaf: Farmiga. But and she's got a tough name. But and I know Timothy Oliphant. I know his name.

[21:45] JJ: Yeah.

[21:48] Olaf: But I just could not pull it out of my brain.

[21:51] JJ: Oh, I understand. I understand. I get it.

[21:54] Olaf: But you know what? Pressure's off. You missed one.

[21:56] JJ: Question number seven.

[21:58] Olaf: Question. Name the four actors who were background characters.

[22:06] JJ: I wouldn't do that. That's just.

[22:07] Olaf: Name the one actor who only has one credit on IMDB.

[22:14] JJ: That's the next one. You want general trivia? I'll give you general trivia next time.

[22:19] JJ: Question number seven.

[22:22] Olaf: I'm so mad.

[22:24] JJ: What is the highest grossing horror film of all time?

[22:31] Olaf: He's thinking.

[22:32] JJ: Yeah, because I think this is a trick because I think a lot of people might think of like an older film.

[22:40] Olaf: That's valid.

[22:42] JJ: I'm not tricky. I'm not trying to trick you.

[22:44] Olaf: I don't think it's an older film.

[22:46] JJ: And I'm not adjusting. I'm not adjusting for inflation. I'm not doing any of that nonsense. It's, you know, on record as the highest grossing movie of all time.

[22:54] Olaf: It's no, I mean, horror film of all time. I think it is it.

[23:00] JJ: Stephen King's It.

[23:01] Olaf: The actual movie, not the miniseries.

[23:04] JJ: OK, well, there's two of those.

[23:06] Olaf: Oh, you mean chapter one or chapter two?

[23:09] JJ: Well, they came out in two different times.

[23:11] Olaf: Well, then I would say chapter one.

[23:13] JJ: Is that your final answer?

[23:15] Olaf: Yeah, I think it's it.

[23:16] JJ: Chapter one.

[23:17] Olaf: Sure.

[23:18] JJ: Well, you're you're going to split hairs.

[23:21] Olaf: No.

[23:21] JJ: One movie came out in 2017 and the other came out in 2019. They're clearly two separate movies.

[23:27] Olaf: Which one is it?

[23:27] JJ: Well, honestly, to me, it's one whole story. So that's why I say it's it.

[23:30] Olaf: But the box office receipts would not tell you that.

[23:35] JJ: Oh, my God. So is it it chapter one or is it chapter two?

[23:40] Olaf: I'm going to say it's chapter one.

[23:41] JJ: Judges?

[23:44] Olaf: It is it chapter one.

[23:46] JJ: I was going to be so mad if you got me on a technicality.

[23:50] Olaf: And I was like, it's the hills have eyes.

[23:52] JJ: It's not even either one of those.

[23:54] Olaf: No, I was like, I'm pretty sure that's what it is. But you're going to be like, no, it was part three.

[23:59] JJ: Well, no, I mean, there wasn't a part three. Clearly, it's like saying Dune is one whole story, which it is. But they clearly are two separate films.

[24:05] Olaf: But yes, the correct answer is it chapter one.

[24:12] JJ: Very good.

[24:12] Olaf: That was awesome.

[24:14] JJ: Yeah, like a lot of people would think it would be an older movie. This question was not intended to be a trick.

[24:20] Olaf: Because when you asked it immediately, I was thinking my brain just Rolodex back to like the black and white era.

[24:27] JJ: Oh, yeah. Classic Universal Monsters.

[24:30] Olaf: But like you're talking about the highest grossing movie of all time.

[24:33] JJ: No.

[24:34] Olaf: Yeah.

[24:34] JJ: Then I was like, no, it's probably not that.

[24:36] Olaf: But then I'm like going into like the 70s.

[24:40] JJ: Yeah, sure.

[24:41] Olaf: And then the 80s.

[24:43] JJ: To me, and I'd have to look up the list.

[24:46] Olaf: But it chapter one is is is number one.

[24:50] JJ: And then I don't know.

[24:50] Olaf: I mean, it's a great adaptation of the book.

[24:53] JJ: So I agreed.

[24:55] Olaf: OK, so very good. You got that one right.

[24:57] JJ: I feel like you can breathe easily here.

[25:00] Olaf: And I feel like these next sets of questions are going to be more about having fun and maybe educating some listeners that aren't into the genre.

[25:06] JJ: Because right now I felt like I was wading through a swamp.

[25:10] Olaf: Well, like names, name these people and this and that and technicalities.

[25:21] JJ: And I'm like, oh, my gosh, you're killing me here.

[25:24] Olaf: Well, here we go. You can get out of the swamp and head to the beach, dip your toes into the water.

[25:32] JJ: For question number eight, bit off by a shark.

[25:36] Olaf: What town does Jaws take place in?

[25:41] JJ: Are you looking at my list? Are you looking at my questions?

[25:43] Olaf: That was I served that one up for you.

[25:48] JJ: Yeah.

[25:49] Olaf: Yeah, you did.

[25:50] JJ: Amityville Island.

[25:53] Olaf: I'm not even taking a super long time. I'm not giving the audience much time.

[25:59] JJ: Amityville is the name of the town.

[26:03] Olaf: Judges, I'm afraid that I cannot accept Amityville Island.

[26:10] JJ: Because it's I said Amityville.

[26:12] Olaf: It's not Amityville is a totally separate type of movie.

[26:16] JJ: That's a totally other.

[26:18] Olaf: The correct answer is Amity Island.

[26:23] JJ: Oh, my God.

[26:24] Olaf: And you know that as somebody who's hosted trivia, you would not have accepted Amityville Island.

[26:28] JJ: I'm not being that guy. I'm just telling you, I don't think Trebek would have given that to you.

[26:34] Olaf: And you know that you got a little overconfident.

[26:38] JJ: And you answered really fast.

[26:40] Olaf: And I wanted to give you some time, but it's Amity Island.

[26:49] JJ: Guys, he is not happy. He is not happy. Not that he got it wrong. He's not happy at me for being that guy.

[26:55] Olaf: He's like, I feel like at the moment he is now I'm just giving him all sorts of fuel for the next time he asks me trivia.

[27:03] JJ: He's going to squeak in something where I got to spell the name of it real correctly. I got to be perfectly correct on my answers because.

[27:11] Olaf: I love Jaws.

[27:14] JJ: I know you do.

[27:15] Olaf: And I cannot believe I got that wrong.

[27:18] JJ: But you understand where I'm coming from.

[27:22] Olaf: Moving on.

[27:26] JJ: Question number nine.

[27:27] Olaf: I'm so angry.

[27:30] JJ: Who directed the original version of The Hills Have Eyes?

[27:38] Olaf: It's all names with you.

[27:41] JJ: It's all names with this guy.

[27:45] Olaf: He's a director.

[27:48] JJ: You're like, no, the names are we're done with the names.

[27:52] Olaf: It's what's the name of the town?

[27:54] JJ: What's the name of the director?

[27:57] Olaf: What's the question?

[27:59] JJ: Who directed the original version of The Hills Have Eyes?

[28:05] Olaf: Wes Craven.

[28:07] JJ: Judges.

[28:09] Olaf: He's back, everybody.

[28:10] JJ: He's back.

[28:11] Olaf: I'm not. I'm not even happy about it.

[28:13] JJ: He's back.

[28:14] Olaf: OK, all right, moving on.

[28:16] JJ: What name do I need for this next one?

[28:20] Olaf: Question number ten.

[28:23] JJ: What line is written over and over in Jack's manuscript in The Shining?

[28:33] Olaf: OK, I can relax.

[28:36] JJ: Because I know this one.

[28:37] Olaf: You know this one.

[28:38] JJ: But I also knew the other one and I said it wrong.

[28:42] J.J. Gonzalez: Oh, Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, though not Stephen King's favorite.

[28:48] Olaf Adsit: Right. Favorite version of this book. Yeah. He did not like Stanley Kubrick's version.

[28:55] J.J. Gonzalez: I think it's great, and I think the changes that Kubrick made made it better. Because if you read the book, which is great, and I do enjoy the book, there are things in it that are a little silly or not as scary as what was changed in the movie. Well, the whole ending, like how the movie ends, is different than the book.

[29:18] Olaf Adsit: Yeah. There was no hedge maze.

[29:23] J.J. Gonzalez: Right, right. Jack Torrance doesn't chase them with an axe, he chases them with a giant croquet mallet, which, again, not as scary. So things like that, I thought, improved the movie.

[29:38] Olaf Adsit: Yep, agreed. But what he writes on the typewriter, what Wendy finds that he's been working on this whole time, is, all work and no play made Jack a dull boy.

[29:52] J.J. Gonzalez: Judges? All work and no play. Wendy, darling, light of my life, you didn't let me finish my sentence. I said, I'm not going to hurt you. I'm just going to bash your brains in. Jack.

[30:18] Olaf Adsit: All right, moving on. We're more like two thirds of the way done. Question number 11. What was the first horror movie to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture?

[30:26] J.J. Gonzalez: This is hard. I have a guess. Okay. I have a guess, but my initial instinct is not to classify it as a horror movie.

[30:43] Olaf Adsit: Okay. I would classify it as a thriller.

[30:50] J.J. Gonzalez: Okay. But I think I'm right. I could be wrong. Would you say, and again, now I'm thinking that you might be thinking of the correct answer and then something else. But it still falls under this sort of genre that we're, I'm not out of the scope. If it's what I'm thinking of, I wouldn't necessarily classify it as a scary movie or a horror movie. I would classify it as a dramatic thriller.

[31:17] Olaf Adsit: Okay. Let me ask you, let me ask the question again. What was the first horror movie to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture?

[31:25] J.J. Gonzalez: Right. Okay. But a nomination doesn't necessarily mean they didn't win.

[31:31] Olaf Adsit: True. You're just saying what was nominated.

[31:39] J.J. Gonzalez: Right. Okay. So I'm going to stick with my guess then, even though now the way you're saying it, I might be wrong. I'm going to say it was Silence of the Lambs.

[31:52] Olaf Adsit: Judges? Silence of the Lambs did win. That was 1991. It was nominated. It won the big five.

[32:00] J.J. Gonzalez: Yeah. And I wouldn't say it was a horror movie or a scary movie. I'd say it's a thriller. The correct answer is The Exorcist. The Exorcist was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1973.

[32:11] Olaf Adsit: See, and I said I was probably thinking of the wrong thing. Well, that's why I was like, I thought you were leaning towards Exorcist, and then when you started telling me your train of thought, I was like, oh, he's thinking Silence of the Lambs, because the way you were describing it is exactly right. Silence of the Lambs, I would describe it exactly how you described it. So that's why I was like, wait a minute. Let me just...

[32:37] J.J. Gonzalez: Yeah. Okay. That's my fault. Okay. This is great. I'm sure you're so happy, because I'm pretty sure I've gotten more wrong than you.

[32:44] Olaf Adsit: Well... I cannot wait to do a theme trivia with you.

[32:51] J.J. Gonzalez: By the time we're done, you're going to be so sad. I'm going to be so mad.

[32:57] Olaf Adsit: I will have to take some time off. You'll be doing this show by yourself for a while. Uh, question number 12. What year was the shot for shot remake of Psycho released?

[33:12] J.J. Gonzalez: The Gus Van Sant. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Vince Vaughn.

[33:20] Olaf Adsit: Vince Vaughn. I didn't even watch it, because they didn't change anything. They didn't do anything to say, hey, here's our take on it. They just copied the original.

[33:27] J.J. Gonzalez: Well, I mean, that's how they also marketed it, too. It was this. This is what we're doing. I'll just watch the original then.

[33:33] Olaf Adsit: Right. Well, yeah. My idea is if you're going to do a reboot or a reimagining, you're going to come at it with a new idea or a new angle and make something interesting. And they didn't do that. They just shot for shot. And it's like, okay, then to me, it's just like a it's like a fan film.

[33:58] J.J. Gonzalez: Well, and maybe that's what Gus Van Sant was wanting to do when he released this movie in what year?

[34:03] Olaf Adsit: Yeah. And see, if anything, by now people have learned you're the one that knows everything about what year something came out. And I'm just going over my strength. I know it. I know it came out in early 2000s, but I could not tell you what year it is. I'm going to say 2001.

[34:21] J.J. Gonzalez: Judges, the correct answer is 1998. OK, question number 13. Who directed the 1968 classic Rosemary's Baby?

[34:34] Olaf Adsit: I don't know.

[34:42] J.J. Gonzalez: I don't even know what to say or talk about in this one. I don't know it.

[34:47] Olaf Adsit: Oh, I love it. This was one of my harder questions I had over here in the house, like Oliver Stone or somebody.

[34:53] J.J. Gonzalez: Well, 68. No, not yet. He wasn't quite there yet. The correct answer is Roman Polanski.

[35:17] Olaf Adsit: Oh, OK. Yeah. Question number 14. How many films are in the Halloween franchise?

[35:26] J.J. Gonzalez: Like total. Yeah, total in totality. If you were to and this isn't like, well, do these do these count because they're directing? Yeah. Just give me everything under that banner, whether it fits into the timeline or whether it's, you know.

[35:40] Olaf Adsit: Well, if we're including the trilogy talk, I mean, hey, I mean, I would talk it out and let me know and I'm at 10, but I feel like there might be more than 10.

[35:56] J.J. Gonzalez: OK, well, do you want to list them? Well, there's one, two, three.

[36:02] Olaf Adsit: Right. Which doesn't. Yeah. But we're counting. We're counting that one count. But there's four and then there's five. The problem is I can't remember if there was a six and then H2O or if it was five and then it was I think it was five and then H2O. So I'm going to say 10. 10 is my answer, because there was there was H2O, then there was Halloween Resurrection with Busta Rhymes, and then there was the new trilogy.

[36:33] J.J. Gonzalez: Right. Pretended that two through all of them didn't exist.

[36:41] Olaf Adsit: Didn't exist. So that's five and one through five makes 10. If there was a Halloween six and then H2O, that's going to be annoying. But I can't remember. I know that was five with Paul Rudd, because isn't that when?

[36:54] J.J. Gonzalez: Oh, I was Paul Rudd six. There's 11. I'm saying 11 judges.

[37:02] Olaf Adsit: You missed. You left out the two Rob Zombie Halloweens, which also. Oh, yeah. They count those. I mean, they count them in terms of. So there's actually 13, which is kind of funny because 13 like, you know, yeah, there was Halloween, Halloween to three, which.

[37:21] J.J. Gonzalez: Yeah. No, you don't have to explain. Well, there was the six you were going back and forth. There was a Halloween six. Yeah. And that's the one with Paul Rudd. And then I had forgotten about resurrection when I was putting this together, because after a while I was just kind of like, what? I forgot about him because I don't care about him.

[37:39] Olaf Adsit: All right. I don't think a lot of people do. I mean, I think when the first one, when this first one came out, Rob Zombies, it was such a big, oh, whoa, this is a cool sort of idea. And then they decided to make a second one and it was not good.

[37:53] J.J. Gonzalez: Really doing great here. Having a lot of fun. You're doing great. You're doing good. Are there any questions that involve something happening in a movie or is it all just dates and names? It sounds like it's all just dates and names.

[38:05] Olaf Adsit: I think. Question number 15. How many people does Jason kill in the first Friday, the 13th?

[38:13] J.J. Gonzalez: What? How many people does Jason kill in the first Friday, the 13th?

[38:25] Olaf Adsit: Zero, because he's not in it until the very end as a jump scare. Jason killed no one.

[38:33] J.J. Gonzalez: Judges? His mom killed everybody.

[38:37] Olaf Adsit: The answer is zero.

[38:38] J.J. Gonzalez: Mom killed everybody.

[38:41] Olaf Adsit: The answer is zero. Jason's mom is the killer. Pamela Voorhees. That was 15 questions.

[38:49] J.J. Gonzalez: Yeah, 15 questions. I'll try to do better next time when I construct these questions, although I feel like these questions are pretty good. But yes, they are good.

[39:01] Olaf Adsit: And the questions were fine, but I will agree that you absolutely stuck to your strengths.

[39:10] J.J. Gonzalez: I did. You just did names and dates.

[39:13] Olaf Adsit: That's trivia. I mean, that's a lot of trivia. I mean, that's some good trivia.

[39:16] J.J. Gonzalez: That is, but there's more to trivia than that and not everybody's good with names and dates.

[39:22] Olaf Adsit: Clearly, I am not.

[39:24] J.J. Gonzalez: You know, I would still ask you questions about the Oscars, Tom Hanks, and dates because I know you're good at them.

[39:31] Olaf Adsit: Well, I asked you questions about The Shining and about Friday the 13th. I asked you a Jaws question. I do think that you had some great questions. I commend you for your first trivia and I hate that I got so many wrong. And yeah, so I'm glad you had fun.

[40:07] J.J. Gonzalez: Uh, well, I hope you did, too. I hope everybody listening enjoyed not only the questions, but the back and forth between the two of us. Hey, and if you have comments, if my trivia questions were subpar, let me know. You know, again, as was mentioned by Olaf and as mentioned by myself, the horror genre, while I appreciate it and I've been entertained with certain films, it's not the one that I like lean into a lot. So but I still felt like I still felt like there were some pretty good questions. I even left off my Hocus Pocus question because at that point I knew.

[40:46] Olaf Adsit: Yeah, I was just thinking you didn't even have any like family friendly Halloween questions.

[40:50] J.J. Gonzalez: Well, I mean, I had one, but I wasn't about to ask another name question. Yeah. What's the actress in Hocus Pocus? Well, which was three of them.

[41:02] Olaf Adsit: Oh, well. So anyway, you could ask the fun question about Hocus Pocus. You're just like, what are the actors names? Now, I would have been like, what are the character? What are the names of the sisters? Like, what are the three Sanderson sisters? The kids would be like, he's just asking about the process. He's not asking about the movies.

[41:19] J.J. Gonzalez: Because this guy's boring, folks. He cares about the process.

[41:25] Olaf Adsit: This everybody, this what you're hearing from the other side is sounds from a person who went nine and six is basically what ended up happening. I got more than half right. But I'm not I'm not happy about a lot of these.

[41:44] J.J. Gonzalez: Well, a lot of them you stared right there. You stared him right in the face and got him right. So there were some of these that you got right that I thought you were going to get wrong and vice versa.

[41:55] Olaf Adsit: Well, look, this was fun, everybody. This is Olaf's favorite one of Olaf's favorite seasons and favorites times of year. And and he's learned some stuff, too, which is the whole idea as well is to have fun and to learn. With that being said, that concludes our Halloween trivia night here at Back to the Movie Theater.
